SUBSTANCE ABUSE SPECIALIST (LCAS, LCAS-A)

A growing agency is looking for a Substance Abuse Counselor (LCAS, LCAS-A) to join an Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) in Morganton, NC. Our ACT Teams provide high quality services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conducting comprehensive substance use assessments, considering the relationship between substance use and mental health
• Serving as a consultant and educator to fellow ACT team Members on the topic of integrated dual disorder treatment. Modeling skills and consultation, cross-training to help them to develop dual disorder assessment and treatment skills, and attending daily team meetings and treatment planning meetings.
• Regularly participate in daily team meetings and treatment planning meetings.
• Establish access to community services and support networks
• Assessing and tracking beneficiaries’ stages of change readiness and stages of treatment
• Provide skill training, including but not being limited to skill training in: activities of daily living, finances, leisure, and social activities, coping skills, substance abuse issues
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
This person must have knowledge of the fundamental principles, techniques, and methods of the rehabilitation process to include assessments, evaluations, development of goals and activities. This employee must have general knowledge regarding principles of Assertive Community Treatment Team and the laws, regulations, and policies that govern these services. This employee must possess a thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work, and community problems.
Requirements:
• LCAS or LCAS-A License
• 1 year of experience working with adults who have a mental illness and/or substance abuse issues
• Superb verbal and written communication skills.
• Aptitude to empathize with people and help them engage in treatment.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to work with other professionals as part of a treatment team.

The position is responsible for overseeing the clinical services and administrative operations of the team. This employee must have considerable knowledge of a wide range of behavioral and psychosocial problems and their treatments. This position should have knowledge of substance abuse and MH/SA issues and treatment interventions. This position must have skills in establishing a rapport with consumers and in applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychiatric aspects of a consumer’s problems.
Requirements:
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LCSW-A) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC/LPC-A)
• Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling
• At least 3 years of post-graduate clinical experience working with SPMI adults
• ACT Team Leader experience preferred

Requirements:
Certified as a Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in North Carolina
The peer specialist should have paid or volunteer experience with adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
Peer specialists will have the self-knowledge to manage their mental illness and have at least 2 years of personal recovery.
